Avo's library window on a Mac: a game to pick up where you left off, then rows of Android games and apps.

Games

Play with keyboard, mouse or controller.

Turn on Game Mode, and your keys and mouse work like fingers on the screen.

A shooter in its own Mac window, with round labels for W, A, S, D, Q, E, Space and the mouse buttons placed over the game's touch controls, and the frame rate in the top corner. Player names are blurred.
Move. The four keys push the game's on-screen stick. Move the mouse to look around, as far as you like. One key frees the pointer and takes it back. The left mouse button fires, holding the game's button for as long as you hold it. Avo adds no rapid fire. Each key presses the game button under it: Space jumps, C crouches, R reloads. See how smoothly the game runs, right in the corner.
In a match The mouse aims, each key presses the button under it, and the frame rate shows in the corner.
Avo's key editor over a game's lobby: a toolbar with Add Control and Templates, and key labels such as W, A, S, D, Q, E and the mouse buttons placed on the game's buttons.
Adds a new key. Drag it onto the game's button. Start from a ready-made layout for shooters, MOBAs or racing games. Select a key, then press the key you want. Drag to move it, use the corner to resize it, and × to remove it. The box is where the mouse swipes to turn the camera. Drag its edges to fit the game. Four keys on one stick. A controller's d-pad can push it too. With a key selected, right-click to choose a mouse button or the scroll wheel instead.
Setting up keys Add a key, drag it onto a button, then press the key you want to use. Templates get you started.

Point at a key label, or tap it, to see what it does.

Player names and account numbers in these screenshots are blurred.

  • Put keys where you need them

Drag keys onto the game's buttons. Ready-made layouts for shooters, MOBAs and racing games get you started.

  • Aim with your mouse

In shooters, move the mouse to look around, just like on a PC.

  • Bring your controller

Connect a game controller to your Mac and play.

  • Share your setup

Save your key layout and share it with other players.

  • No added advantages

Avo adds no auto-aim or other advantages to games. Some online games may still refuse to run in Avo.

Games are still being tested.

On your Mac

Every Android app works like a Mac app.

Its own window and Dock icon

Find apps in Launchpad and Spotlight, and switch between them with ⌘Tab.

Notifications

App alerts show up in Notification Center.

Copy and paste

Copy on your Mac, paste in Android, or the other way around. Links open in your Mac's browser.

Translate the screen

Press ⌘⇧T to translate the text in any app.

Matches your Mac

Dark mode, time zone and language follow your Mac's settings.

Screenshots and recordings

Capture just the app, nothing else on your screen.

Trackpad gestures, drag and drop, sound and location work too.

Camera and Bluetooth don't work yet.

Settings

Set it up your way.

A look around Avo's settings, as they look today.

How it works

A small Android, running quietly on your Mac.

  1. Android runs in the background

Avo keeps a small Android system running out of sight. You never see a phone screen.

  2. Each app gets a window

When you open an app, it appears in its own Mac window.

  3. Fast on Apple chips

Apple chips run Android apps directly, without slow translation.

Before you start

What you need

A Mac with an Apple chip
M1 or newer. Intel Macs aren't supported.
macOS 15 Sequoia or newer
Avo needs features that arrived in macOS 15.
For the smoothest games
Install Google's free Android Emulator from Android Studio. Avo uses it to draw games on your graphics chip.

For developers

Open source, with the tools you know.

  • Connect adb and Android Studio with one switch in Settings.
  • Test on Android 17, with a root shell and a command-line tool.
  • All the code is on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. Build it yourself or send a pull request.

Support Avo

Avo is free. Your support keeps it going.

Avo is built and maintained by one independent developer. Your support goes straight to that work: development tools, test hardware, and the Apple Developer Program fee that lets Avo open without a security warning.

Ways to support

Support goes to the developer personally. It is not a purchase and does not come with features or priority help.

Thank you.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Avo free?

Yes. No price, no ads and no account needed.

When can I download it?

Now, as a preview: use the download button, or get it from GitHub Releases. It isn’t notarized yet, so the first time you open it, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

Will all my games work?

We're still testing. Some online games block programs like Avo, and Avo won't try to get around that.

Can I use Google Play?

It isn't included, but you can add it in Avo's settings. Other stores, like F-Droid, work too.

Do banking apps work?

Usually not. Most banking apps only run on a real phone.

Is it safe?

Android runs walled off from the rest of your Mac, and Avo's code is open for anyone to check.

Does it work on Intel Macs?

No. You need a Mac with an Apple chip, M1 or newer.

Where does support money go?

To the developer, personally. It pays for the tools and hardware Avo is built and tested with, and for the Apple Developer Program fee that lets Avo open without a security warning.
